What The HELL?
I am an avid reader of Fangoria; it’s my favorite magazine of all time and one of the few that isn’t critical or biased. It’s good stuff, but I am writing because of the how hopeless I feel. There is a thing the magazine does one a year called “The Chainsaw Awards” and it’s voted on by the fans and basically this is what happened this year:
What/who I wanted to win:
Best Wide Release Film: Let Me In.
Best Limited-release/Direct-To-Video film: Antichrist
Best Actor: Ryan Reynolds from Buried
Best Actress: Charlotte Gainsbourg from Antichrist
Best Supporting Actor: Vincent Cassel from Black Swan
Best Supporting Actress: Jodelle Ferland from Case 39
Best Screenplay: Glenn McQuaid for “I Sell The Dead”
Best Score: Clint Mansel for Black Swan
Best Makeup/Creature FX: Steve Boyle for DayBreakers
Worst Film: Shutter Island
Fangoria Hall of Fame: Debbie Rochon!!!
What/Who Actually Won
Best Wide Release Film: Black Swan
Best Limited-Release/Direct-To-Video Film: The Human Centipede (First Sequence)
Best Actor: Ryan Reynolds from Buried
Best Actress: Natalie Portman from Black Swan
Best Supporting Actor: Richard Jenkins From Let Me In
Best Supporting Actress: Barbara Hershey From Black Swan
Best Screenplay: Andres Heinz, Mark Heyman, John McLaughlin for Black Swan
Best Score: Clint Mansel for Black Swan
Best Makeup/Creature FX: Steve Boyle for DayBreakers
Worst Film: A Nightmare On Elm Street
Fangoria Hall Of Fame: Richard Matheson and Larry Fessenden
This year I guess the fans of the horror world and I just don’t see eye to eye. We only ended up agree with three things in total. Anyone who has seen Black Swan and I Sell The Dead know which one is better, eveidently, Black Swan sounds better I guess. I am also very angry about The Hall Of Fame. Diary of Deb is a very important part of Fangoria for me and is one of my new favorite articles, but for some reason she wasn’t good enough to be considered the Hall of Fam. She’s been in near a hundred horror films, but she’s on yet in the Hall Of Fame? That’s BS and you know it Fangoria!!!
I guess Much like what Twilight did to the MTV Movie Awards, Black Swan has taken the cake, whether they deserved it or not.
